Galway-Cavendish has Harvey Township changed it's name to the "Municipality of Trent Lakes". The name change is promted by changes at Canada Post that relate to delivery based on municipal address rather than by postal station. If for example you live in Alipne Village or Pirates Glenn in Harvey Township; your mailing address is currently Bobcaygeon, in the City of Kawartha Lakes.
In a council meeting held on the 5th of February 2013, township council approved the new name, subject to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs giving its blessing. The popular choice -- based upon votes for residents -- was for the township to assume the name Buckhorn, although Trent Lakes was the second most popular. Other potential names included Bedrock, Hall's Bridge and Cathacoma.
The township is the third in Peterborough County to rename itself in recent years. The first was Cavan Monaghan Township (formerly Millbrook-Cavan-North Monaghan) while most recently Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield took on the name Selwyn.
